receipt for these donations.
Medical Expenses - If you have extremely high medical expenses
(7.5% or more of your taxable income), bring documentation for all your
unreimbursed medical expenses. This includes insurance premiums, as
well as travel expenses that were necessary to receive treatment.
Tuition and Education Expenses - If you’re a student, your tuition
and other education expenses may be deductible on your return. You
should receive a 1098-T tax form for your tuition. Bring this to your tax
meeting, along with a list of other education expenses, such as books and
lab fees.
Proof of Health Insurance - You will need to provide some proof of
your health insurance coverage throughout the year; you’ll need this for
yourself and all dependents. You may receive a form from your employer
for this, or you’ll receive form 1095-A if you had Obamacare.

The origin of TransUnion
Part 2 of 3: TransUnion
By Rich Ellis
TransUnion’s beginning can be traced back into the 1800’s and John
D. Rockafeller who owned Standard Oil. Standard Oil controlled oil shipping
because of its monopoly on all the tank cars in the United States. It
was doing great until the U.S. Government stepped in to regulate its hold
on the rail car industry. After the government began to create issues for
Standard Oil, it created the United Tank Line Company in 1891.
In 1911 the U.S. Supreme Court dissolved Standard Oil, making
United Tank Line an independent corporation. In 1919 Union Tank Line
amended its name to Union Tank Car Company and began being traded
publicly on The New York Stock Exchange. Due to the nature of its
business, leasing and trading tank cars, Union Tank Car had to begin to
keep track of its customers. The company wanted its records detailed, so
it purchased the Credit Bureau of Cook County in 1967.
In 1968, Union Tank Car Company created TransUnion as its parent
holding company. In 1972, it started a system that stored data on
tapes and discs. In 1981 Union Tank Car Company sold TransUnion to
the Marman Group, a company that is privately owned by the Pritskers of
Chicago, Illinois when the business was failing.
Personal Information - Please make sure that you have the Social
Security numbers and dates of birth for yourself and all the dependents
you will claim. This is especially important for new dependents who were
not on your last return (e.g., a new spouse or child born in the last year).
Last Year’s Return - If you’re a new client and have a new CPA, EA
or tax preparer, please bring along your tax return from last year as well.
Other Documents - If you have a tax form or any other kind of document
that you think might be relevant to your tax return, please bring it to
meet with your tax preparer. It is always better to have extra documents
than to not have essential paperwork to prepare your return.
Schedule An Appointment As Soon As Possible - Scheduling an
appointment as soon as you have ALL your documents ready will save
everyone time in the long run and then you can relax and enjoy the rest
of the year!
The Marman Group was started in 1902. Today they own a number
of businesses including the Hyatt Hotel chain and Ticketmaster. In 2004,
the Pristsker Family was listed at #47 on the list of world’s wealthiest family.
This again shows that the Credit Bureaus are a for profit business
working for the creditors, not the consumer which a lot of consumers tend
to believe.
