Elayna Clair:
A deep connection with the earth
Do you listen to music while you create, and if so, what is
your favorite?
D
Always. Music helps me transcend to a higher state of
awareness, shedding the weight of the day. It would be impossible
for me to claim a favorite. To name a few, I enjoy
world, folk, metal, ska, reggae funk, classical, classics prior
to 2005, and the list goes on. When it comes to painting, it
really all depends on the mood of the day.
I’ve been experimenting with a paintbrush ever since I
can remember, so as soon as I was able to hold one. It was
in high school where I learned the fundamentals and didn’t
start to take my work seriously until my mid-twenties and
have since then had the privilege to be a part of 9 art shows
to date.
I’ve always been a tree-hugger, so to speak. My deep
connection with the earth shows in most of my work, such
as patterns also described as sacred geometry. I’ve always
begun with spirals, geometric shapes, plants, or human
characteristics. In my high school art class, I discovered my
admiration for Salvador Dali’s world of melting inanimate
objects, then my love for sacred mirrors and universal beings
of Alex Grey, and as a result of my appreciation for
of humans and machines. These three brilliant minds have
-
self on an adventure away from reality, to simply get lost
and it’s always an added bonus when I hear that my pieces
have the same effect on
the viewers. There’s only one
piece where I’ve constructed
a story to tell prior to starting,
but I prefer to steer away
from preconceived notions,
as art should be seen through
everyone’s own eyes. Rather
than force perspectives, I prefer
people to see what they
see and possibly come back
they didn’t see before.
Which current art world trends
I’ll watch documentaries
every now and then for education,
but I’m not much of a follower of trends as I prefer
to focus on my own progress and growth.
My work can be found on Instagram and purchased
through my website.
I have admiration and respect for many strong women
including my mother, stepmother, grandmothers, and the
courageous ones of our history. Just recently, I found out
-
ley, is a great ancestor of mine and am honored to know
that the blood of an active leader with such bravery runs
through my veins.
My idea of a perfect weekend is a productive one full of
creative activities and or projects either surrounded by my
loved ones or other like-minded people, preferably in the
mountains somewhere.
What do you hate?
I am deeply affected by animal cruelty and lack of care
for our planet.
It brings me the purest of joy when I witness animals
roaming free in their natural habitat.
