“I’ve got a staff I can count on and I don’t have to lose
sleep overnight. I haven’t had to hire anyone for a long time,”
he said. “This is like a second family,” Ingalls said. In fact, except
for Ingalls, the rest of the crew really are related in some
way. The feeling of family and familiarity also extends to the
customers,” Ingalls added.
“The crew is happy and that makes them want to make
the customer’s happy. Maria Robledo, has worked for Mike
for 11 years. She is the manager of the other six people on
staff. She said that the key to good service is a positive attitude,
which can be a challenge because temperatures in the
warmer months can reach more than 100 degrees in the cleaners
because of the nature of the business.
“Everyone is very positive,” she said. “We work as team.
In the summertime it gets very hot, but we just try to make the
best of it. We try to have fun at the same time.”
This makes a difference. Especially when it comes to customer
service, she said. “We try to be very friendly. Asking
how they are, we know their names. We give them great service
and always with a smile.”
It’s not just the counter side manner that makes a difference
at Iron Mikes, Robledo explained. It’s the special touches
that set them apart – services that are not required but do
make it nice or may be just letting the customers know that
we know them. “Little things matter,” she said. “If they leave
stuff in their pockets we always call and make sure they know
that it’s here whether its keys or money, we let them know,”
Robledo said. “Sometimes they just take their bag and we tell

one reason why they return.
