The
There is something to be
said for a family owned business.
Hector Gallardo, the
youngest member of the new
family owned restaurant, Plaza
Mexico, says that it’s what sets
their place apart. After tasting
the food, I think that’s only part
of what makes them so great.
Plaza Mexico is the complete
package.
Plaza Mexico is beautiful.
It is soft lit and cozy, with gray
walls and glossy black details.
Every piece of furniture and art
is from Mexico and most of it
is hand painted. Instead of the
usual bright colors as in many
Mexican restaurants, they have
kept it classy and simple. Although
they are family friendly,
the ambience would lend
well to a romantic dinner out,
and they have the full bar to
compliment either scenario. I
get that this is all reading like
a commercial, but I genuinely
loved everything about our experience.
Our sweet and attentive
server Nely took great care of
us. She helped us choose and
navigate through the sauces
and various options, and there
were many. The menu is seven
pages long and includes many
vegetarian and seafood options.
Hector told us that the
recipes have been in the family
for generations and while he
knows many of them, some are
kept secret, even from him.

At the table, we sampled a variety of tacos, chile rellenos
(note: theirs contain meat) and salads. Each item was clearly
made from scratch, with plenty of fresh salsa and chips available
throughout the meal. The portions were large and the meals
came out quickly. Nely kept our drinks full and recited the desert
menu to us from memory. They also make guacamole tableside,
which is always fun to watch and seems to taste even more delicious

when you watch someone
make it special, just for you. We
were there for a working lunch,
so drinks weren’t on deck, but
the bar is beautiful and the

People are really taking
notice. I knew I wanted to try
Plaza Mexico when amateur reviews
kept popping up in various
groups all over Facebook.
Everyone has been raving
about the food and price point,
and I have to agree. Hector told
me that there is a room for private
parties and that they have
plans to do outside catering.
They have a Mariachi Band
that plays every other Sunday,
and they offer a different special
each day. He and his family
partners are putting their all
restaurant endeavor.
Within the family they
have been successfully running
restaurants all over the country
for many years. Their professionalism
shows in every single
detail, from the esthetics, to the
execution. With an owner (or
sometimes two) on site at all
times, each service is handled
with the precision of an entrepreneur,
which Hector told us
is a very important part of what
makes them so great. He also
said, “With a family restaurant,
it’s a heart thing,” and I can tell you this, from my own experience,
it shows.
