US AMERICAN LEGION
Serving America for
Nearly A Century
When it comes to assisting veterans and helping
members of the US armed forces make the transition
to civilian lives, no one does it better than the American
Legion. Since its founding in 1919, The American Legion
has been assisting generations of veterans and their
families. As the nation’s largest veterans service
organization, the 2.3 million member American Legion
is at work every day throughout the country and beyond,
ensuring that those who served our nation in uniform, and
their families, receive the care, support, honor and services
they earned and deserve.
■ VETERANS ADVOCACY
■ Nearly 3,000 accredited American Legion service
officers are working with veterans on nearly 750,000
VA claims right now.
■ The American Legion is working with the VA in
Washington and access the country to improve access
to care, performance and claims processing.
■ Legion volunteers annually logged millions of hours
and raised millions of dollars for VA health care facilities
■ As the voice of the stakeholder and advocate for the
health care provider, the legion works continuously for
adequate VA funding and staffing.
■ TROOP SUPPORT
Worldwide, the American Legion provides tireless
support, a voice in Washington, financial assistance,
volunteer help, comfort items and more for the men
and women who serve our nation and uniform, along
with military retirees and their families.
American Legion youth programs offer healthy, educational
and wholesome activities for thousands of young
people every year.
The American Legion proudly stands for values
symbolized by the flag under which members of our
armed forces have served.
