Wally Wyam Caravan Club International
(WWCCI) rally in 1970. I suppose it was
as good a place as any to fall in love. Christine Leslie Powell
had made the trip with her family from Ontario, Canada.
James Wooten had traveled with his family from Alamo,
Georgia. When they met, Christine was a professional ballet
dancer with credentials from the prestigious Royal Academy
of Dance, and James was studying to become an Optometrist
at the Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in Memphis,
Tennessee. Their lives could not have been more different.
But among all those shiny aluminum Airstream trailers, they
found one another, and their lives were forever changed.
Marrying James meant not only leaving her family and
country for Christine, but also the dance studio she had
started at the young age of fourteen. “The Leslie Powell
