Brandon Lee ’20 and Tiger Bales ’20 spent their spring break working in the Florida State Legislature as Senate Pages. They attended legislative sessions, met Gov. Rick Scott, participated in mock sessions, including a debate on the Concealed Carry bill, witnessed the legislature’s debate on the Stand Your Ground bill, and also met basketball icon Magic Johnson, who was in Tallahassee as an advocate for a Florida health maintenance organization. JESUIT’S EAGLES Jesuit celebrated its more than 20 Eagle Scouts at Convocation on Feb. 28, as Eagle Scout Mike Scicchitano ’01, Jesuit’s Director of Student Activities, spoke to the student body about how his recognition of the value of Eagle Scouts has grown over time. The rank of Eagle Scout, established a century ago, is achieved by less than 4% of all Boy Scouts. Eagle Scouts attain leadership positions at an unusually high rate, including numerous astronauts, judges (such as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer), military academy graduates, congressmen, and the 38th U.S. president, Gerald Ford. HOCKEY SUCCESS The 2016-17 season was one of the best in Jesuit hockey annals. The club program earned the No. 3 seed in the Lightning Cup playoff s and reached the semifi nals. The Tigers then fi nished as runner-up in the State Tournament for Tier I teams (teams with all players from one school) in February in Wesley Chapel. Jesuit went 2-1 in pool play to advance to the Tier I title game before succumbing to North Broward Prep, 4-1, and fi nishing with a 20-9 record. Josh Burke ’19 and Nolan Forrest ’18 led the Tiger off ense and goaltender Paul Coats ’18 anchored the defense.
