The Truth About Teeth
Humans, cats, and dogs
are diphyodonts, which
m e a n s t h e y h a v e 2
successive sets of teeth;
the baby teeth, and the permanent
set that come in when the baby teeth
fall out.
Humans have 20 baby and 32
permanent teeth, cats have 26 baby
and 30 permanent teeth, and dogs
have 28 baby and 42 permanent teeth.
Our animal friends are luckier than
we humans when it comes to cavities!
Cats do not get cavities because their
teeth have no horizontal surfaces.
Only 5% of dogs get cavities.
