Economic Development Tools Provide Access to
Clearwater Property, Demographic and Workforce Data
The city of Clearwater’s Economic Development and
Housing department launched a suite of tools that
make it easier for business owners, developers and
realtors to connect to decision-making property,
demographic and workforce data.
The new tool is based on geographic information system,
or GIS, technology. It allows users to find commercial real
estate sites and buildings available for lease or sale. With
a click of a mouse, users can apply customizable layers to
identify zoning, land use and parcel information. Special
incentive areas and districts are easily identified and offer
potential investment opportunities.
The demographics tool provides users with the most accurate
demographic data available through Esri, which is a GIS
software. With nearly 15,000 unique demographic data
variables, reports display demographics including population,
households, income, age and ethnicity. The program provides
access to employee data, such as education, labor force,
journey to work, marital status, languages spoken, home
value and more. The information shows market potential and
helps users make informed decisions.
The workforce tool displays industry-specific data, enabling
users to identify geographic concentrations of occupations by
type.

Key features of these tools are ease of use and ability to create
customized reports. Whether it is a small business seeking
to understand market demographics of consumers within a
1-mile radius, a student charged with writing a report about
her community, or a multi-national company searching
for the ideal business location and a pipeline of talented
workers, the city’s tools provide trusted information at your
fingertips.
Powered by GIS WebTech, a leading provider of cloud-based
web platforms for Site Selectors and Economic Developers,
the tools have been designed to help attract new businesses
and retain and expand existing businesses using the world’s
most powerful mapping software and the most accurate
demographic data
available.
“Our team is working
to bring high quality,
high value employment
opportunities to the
citizens of Clearwater
with a particular focus
on the redevelopment of
vacant and underutilized
sites and buildings
along the U.S. 19
corridor,” said Denise
Sanderson, director of
Economic Development
and Housing. “The
adoption of the U.S. 19 Zoning District and Development
Standards in 2017 provided us the opportunity to redevelop
this corridor with employment-intensive uses including
office, light industrial, research and technology. With the
integration of data and mapping, we now have a meaningful
way to communicate essential information to decisionmakers.”
