Patrons can continue to study, research, practice, and learn
from home using a range of beneficial databases, detailed
below.
Historical & Genealogy
Patrons can access the Florida Newspaper Database for fulltext
articles from more than 50 state and local newspapers,
including Florida Trend, the Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel,
Tampa Bay Business Journal, and the St. Petersburg Times/
Tampa Bay Times. The library also offers online access to
current and past St. Petersburg Times/Tampa Bay Times
issues and articles. With the Internet Archive: Clearwater
Library Collections, patrons can explore Clearwater and
Pinellas County history, including Clearwater High School’s
Aqua Clara Yearbooks and historic area City Directories.
Pinellas Memory (pinellasmemory.org) is a Pinellas Public
Library Cooperative collaborative, online archive, which
includes local newspapers, historical photographs and other
documents. And finally, Fold3 provides convenient access to
military records, including the stories, photos and personal
documents of men and women who served.
Virtual Learning
Patrons of all ages learning from home can use ArtistWorks
for Libraries, which provides patrons with world-class
instruction through self-paced video lessons from Grammy
Award-winning music professionals. Gale Health and
Wellness gives access to full-text medical journals,
magazines, reference works and multimedia, which provides
authoritative information on a full range of health-related
issues. Gale in Context: Middle School provides engaging
reference, periodical and multimedia content supporting
national and state curriculum standards for grades six to
12 in language arts, social studies and science. The Gale
OneFile: High School Edition provides access to ageappropriate,
authoritative digital content for middle- and
high-school students to use for classroom assignments.
Pronunciator is an online language-learning system offering
instruction in more than 80 languages including Spanish,
French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin
Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian and many more. Universal
Class offers lifelong learning courses in more than 30 subject
areas, many of which award continuing education units, or
CEUs.
Jobs & Business
For jobseekers, entrepreneurs and small-business owners,
the library provides AtoZdatabases, which features 2.3
million job listings, 30 million business profiles, 1.1 million
healthcare professionals and more and is ideal for sales leads,
mailing lists, market research, employment opportunities
and finding friends and relatives. Business Insights:
Essentials includes detailed company and industry news
and information where users can locate company profiles,
brand information, rankings, investment reports, company
histories, chronologies and relevant magazine articles. Career
Transitions offers tools to assist jobseekers with writing a
resume and a cover letter, interviewing practice with an
interactive simulation and searching for jobs. Gale Business:
DemographicsNow allows patrons to create population and
income maps, demographic reports, sales lead lists, market
information and to access census data. Gale Florida Legal
Forms offers thousands of customizable online legal forms
specific to Florida. Gale Business: Entrepreneurship teaches
users how to plan, fund, start or manage their small business.
Clearwater library card holders can also enjoy
complimentary, 24-hour access to the full New York Times
online and access to Value Line, which offers online
investment research for 6,000 stocks, 18,000 mutual funds,
and 200,000 options and other securities.
Book Recommendations
For those looking for their next, great read, NoveList
Plus is an online reader's resource that provides reading
recommendations for fiction and nonfiction titles for all
ages, while NoveList K-8 Plus provides guidance for younger
readers.
