Pet Trusts
Many of us know the terrible pain of
losing a beloved pet, but what happens
if your pet loses you?
One solution is setting up a pet trust.
Pet trusts are legally enforceable so
you can be assured that your wishes
for your pets’ lifetimes will be carried
out. You don’t have to be weathy to set
up a trust for your pet.
For a pet trust, you need someone to
money (the trustee) to pay for the lifetime
care of your animal, and another
person who actually provides the care.
There are also rescue organizations
that will agree to take your pet(s) if
you die—sometimes for a set amount
of money.
A pet trust will also work if you become
too ill to care for your pet. A trust
pet owner can provide instructions for
the care of the animal(s) in the event
the pet owner becomes incapacitated
(sick, injured, comatose, etc.)
You can consult an estate attorney
to set up a pet trust, or you can do it
yourself from an online legal document
website.
It’s sad that many pets are euthanized
because their owners didn’t plan for
them after the owner’s death. Please
don’t let your pet be one of them.
