Switzerland 2018 - One of Reema’s Top 3 most beautiful
places. Reema’s mom and greatest supporter,
to accomplish, it’s the same steps again and again.”
She broke it down again, with emphasizing each step.
“Get counsel. Evaluate the options. Listen to your instincts.
I asked Reema what it meant to her to win The Technology
Woman of the Year Award. She said, “I think it just
means that my journey so far is being validated. Anything
that I could offer to someone else who is fresh on their journey,
than I am happy to do so. It’s just about the journey and
the decisions that we’ve made along the way. They’ve been
validated.
I don’t think anyone would argue with her there. Vectra

tal marketing is happening within a company and its impact,
then optimizes that impact, creating the greatest return of investment
possible. She says that their company relies on their
humans to do the creative thinking that leads a marketing
campaign, leaving the machines to do everything else, like
the execution and the recording of data. This way they are
able to put more resources to work within the same
budget. This is a much dumbed down version of
just one part of what they do. I encourage you to
check out the websites of all of her businesses to
fully see what makes Reema and her team so cutting
edge and innovative.
Reema’s colleague described her as a “true
thought leader,” and I asked her what she thought
her peer meant by that. “You know we have this
word called ‘disruption,’ like technology disruption
and it’s a very good word. It just means making
strides. Right? It’s not just the same thing. It’s looking
at how we do things in technology from a new
perspective, and by true thought leader, I think she
means somebody who has something new to contribute
and something that might be disruptive to
how things are happening currently, but still pushes
forward. You know, we could keep doing marketing
the same way, but what’s the fun in that?”
It was an unforgettable experience to be able
to talk with such an intelligent female leader. As I
thanked her for her time, I shared with her that we
would also have a story about STEM Girl Scouts in
this issue and asked if she had any parting words
of advice for our Future
Women in Technology.
She obliged.
“When I feel intimidated
or when I feel lost,
or when I am dealing with
failure... like every entrepreneur
does... I don’t
think of business strategies
or things like that. I
think of how I’m feeling in
that moment. I think of...
what if my mom found
me like this? Is this what
my mom taught me? Or
is this the daughter that
my mother raised. I think
that has always kept me
very grounded. To me,
for young girls, for me, it
is very grounding to have
a close relationship with
Renu Bhatia in Michigan.
my parents. To have their
goodness to be a driving force. That also helps with decision
making where ethics are concerned, too. How do you know
what to do in life? Is this right or is it wrong? If you have a
close relationship with your parents or family growing up, it
keeps you grounded and ethical.”
of having parents, “I do think, that not just as kids, but even
when we are grown up, we need a mentor.”
“Whether it’s your mother, a teacher, your coach, your
husband, or a business person that has done the same path
you are trying to go on.” She went on to emphasize the importance
of creating a tribe. Referring to her own tribe, she
fondly explained that they weren’t all born into the same family.
It was a choice. She compassionately advises everyone to
make the choice to build their own tribe. Seems only natural
for the talented team builder’s parting words to be ones that
encourage us all to get out there and start building our own.
