After years of dreaming, and planning, and asking friends like you to support our dreams
and plans, we finally find ourselves embarking this year on construction of
“Hugh’s View” – the rooftop arts space at The Studios with a view from the gulf to the
ocean that we can’t wait to share.
Almost reflexively, we find ourselves looking up as we think about this project. It should
really be a yoga pose, if it’s not already. Head skyward, you can’t help but breathe deeply,
shoulders back, palms opening slightly. Feels good, right?
Then you start noticing there’s a whole world up there, especially from the perspective
of a little island like Key West, that you never see when all you do is look ahead. Coconut
palms whispering in a sea breeze, gulls floating lazily. Beyond, in the morning, a sky
that’s surprisingly deep. Or at night, how the moonlight frames the clouds, and stars
call out like sirens.
It’s not necessarily a safe pose; it’s a bit dizzying, in fact. But it’s filled with possibility.
We hope The Studios – and the incredible season of classes and events inside these pages –
has a similar effffffect on you. We’d like for you to leave our doors feeling reoriented, and
reenergized. We hope you’ll find yourself feeling more open than when you arrived -
to ideas, to people, and to your own creativity.
Really it’s amazing how things can change when you just change your perspective. And
we’re happy to help.
