What the heck is . . . Cloud Computing
AAccess Computer Training
According to Wikipedia, Cloud computing is an information
technology paradigm that enables ubiquitous access
-
er-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal
management effort, often over the Internet
What? That’s exactly what I said! But in today’s busy
world, it is critical to the bottom line of any business because
it maximizes end user productivity via real-time collaboration
and storage. But that doesn’t mean only businesses can
use it.
Remember back in the day we had cameras? We’d take
Then you would get the pictures and maybe use a few for
cabinet with folders holding all of our documents, bills, house
papers, etc. Or a recipe box, notebook, lock box, or safe to
keep all that is precious to us.
Then came the age of modern
computing and with it conveniences
like email. In seconds you could
scan a document, like a picture or
document, attach it to an email and
voila – send it off to your email recipient
anxiously waiting on the
other end, wherever in the world
that “end” may be. But then if you
needed a signature on that document,
the recipient would have to
open the attachment, print it, get
out a pen, sign it, scan the signed
copy, attach it to a new email to
send back to its original sender.
Phew!!! That’s a lot of steps! And if
size may be too large to send per your Internet Service Provider.
Then you’re stuck!
To solve these issues, cloud computing, also called sharing
or co-authoring, eliminates all of the above when saving
those pictures or that document to your cloud where you can
then invite others to join you in your cloud to work on that
document together, or view a video, or listen to a song, or
look at a picture. It’s that one consolidated place to work. And
apps such at Word Online (Google Docs) or Excel Online
• Mobility - Connect to your cloud anywhere, anytime, using
your phone, iPad, tablet, desktop or laptop because the cloud
is web-based. All you need is an internet connection, WiFi or
mobile data, to connect. When connected you can:
• Share your albums or individual pictures or videos with
loved ones
• Sync your phone to upload pictures that you take directly to
your cloud (iCloud, Google Photos, etc.)
• Create an email account that doesn’t give away yours but
you can send it as if it were (i.e. info@yourbusiness.com) and
it sends and receives to and from your inbox
• Create a company or departmental site to collaborate and
• Create a team social page and upload the app to your phone
• Integrate seamlessly
• Flexibility – It doesn’t matter where, when or what device
you’re using. If you have an Internet
connection you can access your
data anywhere, anytime, from any
device.
• Piece of mind back up – Protecting
your data should be of top priority
whether you access the cloud
for business or personal use. Backing
up your data to the cloud ensures
it is protected in a secure and
safe place. It’s virtual so you can’t
drive, won’t be affected by a hard
drive failure on your laptop, won’t
melt in a hot car in Florida in the
anything! Being able to access that
back up immediately will minimize
stress after data loss as well as anxiety, downtime and loss of
productivity. This is important whether you’re a small business
or major corporation or a personal user.

way to more safety and security when it comes to your data.
