He was awarded the Toombs Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Year in 2015 and Toombs Wrestling Bulldog Excellence Award in 2016. Football was also something Oren had not yet played, and so he joined the football team his sophomore year. He continued to play through his senior year. The pressure of deadlines with hours of practice and keeping up with schoolwork gave him the challenge he wanted for himself. “I didn’t want to sit home in the evenings with nothing to do,” said Oren. All the while, his academic achievements continued to speak about the young man he’d chosen to become. In 2016, he received the Certificate of Excellence in Chemistry. He served on the 2016-17 Peoples Bank Youth Leadership Board of Directors, the 2016-17 Meadows Regional Medical Center’s Medical Staff Youth Advisory Board, the 2015- 16 Georgia State Superintendent’s Youth Advisory Council, and of course, he received the United States Naval Academy’s Summer Seminar Certificate of Completion in 2016. The cows are eating organic, the worms are eating organic, and the crops are sprayed with this organic compost.” As part of the preparation for acceptance into the Naval Academy, Oren began the medical evaluation process. It was during the optometry examination that he learned he was no longer eligible for the Academy because he was color blind. Just like his brother Rance.
