page Men are Pulling up their Pant Legs Across the Country!!! What is up with men pulling up their dress pant legs in church showing off their “fun” socks or “Friday Socks” as they are called up north? In past years seems that men could only show off their personality with their ties or their designer watches. While standing in the choir one Sunday morning I almost snickered out loud when the pastor pulled up his pant legs and compared his socks to the associate pastor’s socks. One Sunday I saw a couple of ushers standing in the hallway with their pants legs up comparing who had the best socks! Everywhere you look men are pulling up their pant legs and showing their socks off. They are suddenly breaking out in their own fashion shows posting their socks on Facebook or having a friendly sock It doesn’t make much difference that they might be wearing a designer suit because when it comes to the socks there are no rules. The crazier, the brighter, the better. Colors that don’t even belong together are showing up on men’s socks across the country. Men now have the luxury of showcasing their hobbies or boldly and uniquely expressing themselves on their socks. I felt that I must get to the bottom of this and see where it originated. After much research, I found that a young man from New York is taking all the credit for this craze. Seems that 25-year-old Joshua Weiner says he is the one that came up with the idea when he was in high school. He confesses that he always was one to think outside of the box and started wearing fun socks on Friday. Now the trend on Wall Street is “Friday Socks” where suit and tie men are rocking some wild socks with their suits. All these years’ ladies have had shoes, handbags and all sorts of baucheated along the way. This new “Fun Socks” craze allows them a way to express themselves as never before. The trend is also all over social media. I reached out to my friend Blake Tyner who works at Joe Sugars of St. Pauls as most days he posts his bow time and socks for the day. It is always a treat to see what he has matched up for the day. Blake says, “The rule of thumb for men’s socks has always been that the color of your sock should match the color of your trousers. Black with black, gray with gray and blue with blue but who wants to be so boring. Depending on your job environment you might be required to wear a dark suit but why not kick it up a notch with your sock choice. You can be just as exciting as your imagination allows. Let your personality shine. You might begin with just picking a solid colored sock to give a little contrast to your suit. Some popular colors to own are salmon, various shades of blue, purple, and green. Next try jumping on the bandwagon with a patterned sock. Look at from boring sock life is to move to a novelty sock which are available to match any interest from food and mustaches to sports and nautical themes. Tired of the same old boring striped necktie well dress up your neck with a bow tie. A bow tie automatically makes you seem cheerful and fun. Just as your path from boring to exciting with your socks start novelty bow ties. Looking to add the color and wildness to your wardrobe check out the county’s only century old men’s clothing store – Joe Sugars of St. Pauls. I will gladly assist you in choosing your new sock and bow tie wardrobe. Remember life is too short to dress boring.” fun socks and bow ties. Then perhaps they will not be so quick to judge that $450 Michael Kors handbag that we just had to have!!! Blake Tyner sporting his whimsical socks and bow tie. By Jane Parker Myers 12
