November 21, 2013, his life was forever changed by the birth of his daughter Chessley. “Does it make you want to be a little more cautious now that you’re a father?” I asked. “Not at all. She makes me want to try even harder to get my name as high as it can go, so she can have a road to follow,” said Greg. I was lucky to catch up with Greg at Horton’s Auto Parts where he works during the week with his father and brother. Signs and banners from sponsors like Cometic Gaskets, Kinetik Batteries and Renegade Race Gas were displayed throughout the store. Even with all the success he’s enjoyed, motorcycle drag racing was never Greg’s first choice. In fact, he said, “Me and my brother have two Chevy Vega cars.” He smiled. “I hope to get back into car racing next year.” Even so, he won’t be giving up motorcycle drag racing anytime soon. “I’ll keep bike racing, too.” McCarthy sums it up best: “The passions within the sport,” he writes, “drive its participants far beyond normal life – whatever that is….It’s about heart, about a serious sometimes death-defying obsessive passion to see just how far a motorcycle can be pushed in performance.” All I can say is that Greg Horton has taken “life in the fast lane” to a whole new level. TCM Greg and Katie Horton with their daughter Chessley. 110 Toombs County Magazine
