It offers more than 4,000 recreation programs and activities including festivals, classes, trips and performances for all ages and abilities. Parks are open from 8 am to dusk. Hours change with the season and may be affected by special activities. DEEP CUT GARDENS M4 A “must see” for the home gardener. Gardens and greenhouses, beautiful in every season; horticultural staff and reference library. DORBROOK RECREATION AREA M7 Athletic fields, tennis courts, playground, horseshoe courts, two swimming pools, spray ground, inline skating rink, basketball courts, reserved picnic area, activity center and trail for walking, running, biking and rollerblading. EAST FREEHOLD PARK J8 Showground hosts horse shows, special events and the Monmouth County Fair, held at the end of July. Fair features 4-H exhibits, amusements, entertainment, fireworks, home and garden competition and antique auto show. FISHERMAN’S COVE CONSERVATION AREA P13 Last undeveloped land at the Manasquan Inlet. Activity center hosts nature programs. Fish, sunbathe, and walk on the beach. HARTSHORNE WOODS PARK P3 Fish or explore the 19 miles of trails that range from easy to challenging. Abandoned military batteries, including some from World War II, are visible. Call 732-842-4000 ext. 4312, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. Most park system recreation facilities and program buildings are wheelchair accessible, as are the first floors of historic buildings at Longstreet Farm and Historic Walnford and the playgrounds at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park and Dorbrook Recreation Area. Seven Presidents Park, the only county park that charges a fee, offers free playground access for individuals with disabilities. Surf chairs are available by prior arrangement. HOLMDEL PARK L4 Extensive facilities for active recreation and nature appreciation. At historic Longstreet Farm, costumed staff offer hands-on programs such as milking cows or grinding corn and perform daily chores using the methods and customs of the 1890s. David C. Shaw Arboretum presents information on local horticulture. HUBER WOODS PARK P4 Multi-use trails and environmental center with hands-on nature displays. Fabulous view of the Navesink River. MANASQUAN RESERVOIR K11 Amidst woods and wetlands, with a five-mile perimeter trail, fishing, boating and an environmental center. Abundant wildlife and home to bald eagles. MT. MITCHILL SCENIC OVERLOOK Q3 Overlooking the Raritan Bay with 9/11 Memorial and views of the New York City skyline. PERRINEVILLE LAKE PARK E9 Peace, quiet and natural beauty. Canoe, kayak and fish for bass or catfish (electric-powered boats only). SEVEN PRESIDENTS OCEANFRONT PARK Q6 Swim, surf, fish or walk on the beach. Boat launch, playground, skatepark and seasonal facilities. SHARK RIVER PARK N10 946 acres for fishing, picnicking, ice skating, cross country skiing, shuffleboard, horseshoe courts, reservable shelter building, playground, hiking and fitness trails. SUNNYSIDE RECREATION AREA AND EQUESTRIAN CENTER M5 A horse lover’s delight that provides riding experiences for all people, particularly those with physical and cognitive disabilities. THOMPSON PARK M6 The park includes playgrounds, craft center, tennis courts, boating, fishing and off-leash dog area. Paved and unpaved trails along reservoir. TURKEY SWAMP PARK I10 At the northern end of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, 17-acre lake, wooded campsites, multi-use and fitness trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. WALNFORD AT CROSSWICKS CREEK B12 Large home built in 1774, assorted outbuildings and farm structures. Provides a glimpse into a former mill village and estate. Part of Crosswicks Creek Greenway.
