STATE PARKS Monmouth County is home to three state parks. Allaire State Park and Historic Allaire Village N12 4265 Atlantic Ave. (Route 524), Wall 732-938-2371 www.allairevillage.org The 3,199-acre park is best known for Allaire Village, its 19th-century iron-making town, and for its historic railroad. Allaire Village offers living history and arts events, festivals and other events throughout the year. Cheesequake State Park J2 6 Gordon Rd., Matawan | 732-566-2161 The 1,569-acre park is unique as a transitional zone between ecosystems, including saltwater and freshwater marshes, a white cedar swamp and pine barrens. The park offers an education center, trails, camping, fishing, picnic area, boating, swimming and winter sports. Monmouth Battlefield State Park H8 347 Freehold-Englishtown Rd. (Business Route 33), Manalapan | 732-462-9616 One of the most significant battles of the American Revolution took place in the woods and fields of this 1,818-acre park. The site depicts 18th-century rural life and includes the Craig House, a restored Revolutionary War farmhouse, visitor’s center, picnic area, playground, bridle path, plus hiking and crosscountry ski trails. Poricy Park Convervancy N4 345 Oak Hill Road, Middletown 732-842-5966 www.poricypark.org Since 1970, nonprofit Poricy Park Conservancy has been preserving 250 acres of open space, wildlife habitats, prehistoric fossil beds, and the historic Murray Farmhouse. The park is a center for environmental and cultural education. It’s also home to Rebecca’s Reel Quilters Guild. Park Access for all New Jersey State Parks Disability Pass Free entrance to state park, forest, recreation area and historic site facilities that charge daily fees, as well as a discount on campsite fees, is offered to New Jersey residents with a New Jersey State Parks Disability Pass.
