The Atlantic Highlands Harbor offers something for all
ages, with beautiful parks, tennis courts and a skate park.
Experience the Jersey Shore waters on a half-day private
fishing charter, a party boat or a sunset cruise, or simply
fish off the pier. Hike the scenic 1.8-mile Henry Hudson Trail,
running from the Atlantic Highlands Harbor to Popamora Park
along the waterfront. Bike rentals are available to enjoy the
trail or nearby Hartshorne Woods. Visit Mt. Mitchill, the site
of Monmouth County’s official 9/11 memorial. At 266 feet, it
boasts the highest natural elevation on the Atlantic seaboard
from Maine to the Yucatan and provides unrivaled panoramic
views of the New York skyline.
Nearby is Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area, a
seven-mile stretch of spectacular ocean and bay beaches,
excellent for surfcasting, swimming, biking and relaxing on the
sand. Nature lovers will revel in the 300+ species of migratory
birds and the Hook’s pristine holly forest. Music fills the air at
Beach E on Wednesday evenings during the summer.
Atlantic Highlands is home to a variety of great restaurants for
everyone’s taste and pocketbook. Find everything from firstrun
movies at the local theater to classic puppet theater and
dessert playhouse performances. Don’t miss what Smart Movie
Making called “probably the best little film festival in the world,”
FilmOneFest, the international one-minute-film festival at the
Atlantic Highlands marina. www.filmonefest.org
The Atlantic Highlands Chamber of Commerce, the Atlantic
Highlands Historical Society, and the Borough of Atlantic
Highlands offer events throughout the year, including the
weekly farmers’ market, summertime concerts at the Harbor,
a town-wide garage sale, annual car show, Fireman’s Fair &
Fireworks, Arts & Crafts Festival and a fall bicycle touring event.
Year-round weekday ferry commuter service is available from
Atlantic Highlands to Pier 11 Wall Street, East 35th Street and
the World Financial Center in New York City.
