House Bill 506
Victory For Dogs In Ohio!
On June 7, 2018, State Lawmakers
passed House Bill 506 which increased
care standards to address the big problem
of puppy mills in Ohio. Examples of
increased care standards in the bill are:
Larger kennels
primary enclosures
Daily exercise and socialization for
each dog
Nutritious food twice per day and
continuous access to potable water
for each dog
Protection from extreme temperatures
Annual veterinary exams for each dog
Breeding limits
Stores selling puppies must acquire
them from breeders that meet these
requirements
The group responsible for this victory
is Stop Puppy Mills Ohio consisting of
thousands of Ohio businesses, rescues,
shelters, veterinarians, public figures,
and volunteers who rallied behind House
Bill 506. It is a shining example of
how grassroots work and passion are
successful tools for positive change.
This legislation is a great start but the
work is not done! Please get involved,
if you are not already, in the continuing
things you can do.
Support local pet stores that DO NOT
sell puppies
