Keep a photographic
record of your finds -- new
ones are always popping up
-- and see what the spirits
tell you of their stories.
For additional help
locating the Tree Spirits,
look for the Tree Spirit
symbol on the map on
page 79.
All these works are
located on the bike
path. It’s about 9
miles round trip
and a great way
to see St. Simons.
Your route will
take you past
great
restaurants and
fun shopping!!
SSI Rocks!!
A few months ago Joy Elliott was online
looking for fun ways to entertain her
grandchildren when she found Lakeland
Rocks. Lakeland Florida was encouraging
people to paint rocks and hide them around
town for others to find and enjoy -- painting,
hiding, finding -- all fun activities. She posted
on St. Simons Live Update “wonder if we
could do something like this here?” SSI Rocks
was up and running! Their Facebook page,
SSIrocks, now has over 3,000 members! Post
your creations and your finds on Instgram at
#ssirocks.
Further investigation of how this
movement began led to The Kindness Rocks
Project created by Megan Murphy of Cape
Cod. “Living near the ocean, I walk the beach
daily. Losing my parents at a young age
meant losing my advisers, my sounding
board, and my role models. During difficult
or stressful moments in my life, I found
myself looking for “signs” on my morning
walk, such as a heart shaped rock or a piece
of sea glass. I perceived these small beach
treasures as “signs” or as a divine message
and the random inspiration I needed to
signify that things would be OK. Maybe I
wasn’t the only one looking for such signs!”
says Megan. Thus The Kindness Rocks Project
was born and now has worldwide members.
Back on St. Simons SSIrocks is flourishing -
and we want to encourage you to participate!
It goes like this: You paint - hide - hunt -
post - rehide - keep (your favorites) - rock
on!! With identification on the back -
#ssirocks - you can spread the love of St.
Simons Island around the island and across
the land.
All you need to get started is rocks and
paint, or Sharpies. On the island check out
Ace Hardware or Strother Lumber in the
Village for rocks and sealer. St. Simons Drugs
and Ace should have paint and pens... and
you’re off and running!
