Clearwater Librarian named NASA "Solar System Ambassador"
Clearwater Library division manager, David Stoner,
has been named a Solar System Ambassador for
the year 2020 by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
of the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, NASA. Only 1,000 volunteer ambassadors
are selected by NASA, based on their backgrounds and
plans for public outreach activities. The main goal of these
important ambassadors is to present programs that offer
information and generate excitement about real missions
that explore the solar system.
As a Clearwater librarian, Stoner has hosted space program
presentations and star parties for years that are targeted to
02 MyClearwater
groups of all ages in Pinellas County. Since the Clearwater
Public Library System specializes in science, technology,
engineering and math, or STEM, programming, Stoner’s
additional role as a volunteer ambassador aligns perfectly
with the goals of the Clearwater Public Library System,
which is to instill in the public an interest in math and
sciences.
Stoner will host several space-related programs this year,
perhaps more upon request. He can be reached through the
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s directory of solar system
ambassadors at solarsystem1.jpl.nasa.gov/ssa or facebook.
