Beaches
Jekyll Island’s 10 miles of unspoiled beaches
are perfect for sunbathing, swimming,
exploring, leisurely walks and invigorating
runs. Because Jekyll Island is a barrier island,
the motion of the sea here is constantly shifting
the landscape and depositing unique shells.
Great Dunes Park is one of the mostpopular
beaches on the island. This 20-acre
beachfront has several picnic pavilions, a deck
for activities, play areas for children, bocce ball
and volleyball courts, and public beach access
with restrooms and showers. Located adjacent
to the Jekyll Island Convention Center, there is
ample parking and quick, easy access to other
island amenities and lodging.

Driftwood Beach, on the north end of the
island, is consistently voted one of America's
"Ten Most Romantic Beaches” and has been
featured by USA TODAY as one of the best
southern beaches for a weekend escape.
Glory Beach, toward the island’s south end,
gives island guests a chance to walk where
Hollywood celebrities once performed for the
cameras. A shooting location for the 1989
Civil War film classic, “Glory,” this boardwalk
was specifically built for filming several of the
movie’s classic Civil War battle scenes.
South Dunes, located along S. Beachview
Drive, provides elevated boardwalk beach
access over 20-foot high dunes. The park
offers picnic tables and grills, open-air and
screened-in picnic pavilions, public restrooms,
dog bag stations, an observation deck, and a
freshwater pond.
St. Andrews is a short walk from Jekyll
Point, the southern-most point in the island.
Rolling waves, pristine sand dunes, and
leaping dolphins are common sights at this
oceanfront picnic area, which is also popular
