Beach Rules
grab your pup and hit the beach!

Hooray!!! Warm weather’s finally here!!! Time to go
running down the beach, playing with other dogs, stealing
vacated flip-flops and checking out people’s lunch
baskets.
But, as always, there are a few rules. From Memorial
Day weekend through Labor Day we are not allowed on the St. Simons beaches between
9am and 6pm. My friends and I can still romp on the beaches unrestrained before 9am and
after 6pm (it’s too hot in between anyway), as long as we come when called and behave
ourselves -- that might mean no flip-flop stealing.
On Jekyll Island dogs must be on a leash no longer than 16' at all times. No pets are
allowed on South Beach between South Dunes Picnic Area and 2,000' northeast of St.
Andrews Sound Picnic Area, where baby birds
are sometimes nesting. Can’t go there.
The rule of cleaning up after yourself (or
having someone do that for you) always
applies.... that’s just good dog manners! There
are dog bag receptacles located at each beach
access point that allows pets. It is always a
good idea to bring your own bags as well, just
in case the receptacle is empty.
When it gets too hot on the beach, grab
some like-minded friends and head to the dog
park, or have a friend give you a ride!
