Bloody Marsh Battle Site
At Bloody Marsh on July 7th, 1742, outnumbered
forces of British troops ambushed and defeated
Spanish soldiers. This halted a planned attack on
Fort Frederica and ended Spain’s claims to the

World War II Home Front Museum
Located in the historic Coast Guard Station overlooking
East Beach, this kid-friendly interactive
museum tells a compelling story of the impact
WWII had on our community. Call ahead to
learn when storytellers will be sharing personal

Historic Slave Cabins at Gascoigne Bluff
Two tabby slave cabins built on Hamilton
Plantation have been carefully restored and were
placed on the Register of Historic Places in 1988.
Gascoigne Bluff has been the location of a Sea
Island cotton plantation, the site of a
lumber mill and a shipping point for timber.

The Avenue of Oaks
These magnificent trees were planted in 1826 to
provide an entrance to what was then Retreat
Plantation, a prosperous cotton plantation.
It is a magical drive around the magnificent
double row of stately live oaks.

Arthur J. Moore Methodist Museum
On the grounds of Epworth by the Sea, the 6,000
sq ft museum showcases local island history,
Christian artifacts and the story of the United
Methodist Church. Displays from the plantation
era, a wax figure of Bishop Arthur J. Moore, and a
large nativity collection are highlights
