home and its occupants after Margaret’s death.
Ernestine had been hired as domestic help by
Jack and Margaret in 1960. “At that time, she
had been working at the Pal Theater, overseeing
the concession stand for the balcony,” said
Dorsey.
In addition to managing the household,
Ernestine helped raise their children and
grandchildren, and prepared every meal served
at Tranquilla, including dinner for the family
on Christmas Eve each year. “She was my
grandfather’s most faithful companion, and she
was extremely special to all of us,” said Dorsey.
