Today’s Caregiver: How is the new Time Counts
campaign from Embracing Carers™ helping make a
difference for caregivers?
Sean Hayes: EMD Serono started the Embracing Carers™
program to help raise awareness of the challenges that
caregivers face. No one can do something like that all
alone, and they shouldn’t have to.
That’s why their new Time Counts campaign is so
important — and not just for caregivers, but for everyone.
Because sooner or later, each of us is either going to
become a caregiver for someone we love, or else we’re
going to need a caregiver to take care of us, right?
The goal of Time Counts is to encourage people from all
over the world to volunteer a total of 1 million minutes
of their time to help the caregivers in their own lives.
There are so many things that caregivers don’t have time
to do for themselves anymore because their whole day
now revolves around caring for someone else. So even if
you can just volunteer half an hour of your time, you can
help a caregiver out in so many ways — like doing some
meal prep for the week, or running errands, or just giving
them a break in the middle of the day.
It may not seem like a lot of time or effort to you but
giving them your support and a chance to rest and
recharge really does mean a lot.

I’ve been encouraging people to use share their caregiving
stories or how they are helping a caregiver with their
gifts of time by using #TimeCounts…..I am enjoying the
opportunity to read what people are saying…each post
is such an expression of love….and commitment….and
sometimes sacrifice and struggle.
The Time Counts conversation is not only making it
possible to really help and support one another in
meaningful ways, but the conversation surrounding it
gives us strength to know that we are not alone in our
caregiving journey.
