Mary is present at all the great
mysteries of our Faith: the Annunciation,
the Visitation, the Incarnation, the
beginning of Christ’s miracles, Calvary
and Pentecost. Still, She is wrapped in
mysterious silence and is herself a
mystery of God.
St. Irenaeus who lived in the 2nd
Century taught of the “New Adam
and Eve.” Subsequent Fathers of the
Church continued this tradition. But it
was the famous medieval Doctors and
Writers who were the great lovers
of Mary, like St. Anselm, St. Bernard,
St. Albert the Great, St. Bernardine
of Siena and St. Bonaventure who
unfolded many of the hidden glories of
Mary, particularly her unique role of
Mediatrix and dispenser of all graces.
This Age was called the Golden Age of
Marian devotion. All that was best in
art, literature and culture in Europe
found its inspiration and ideal in the
Blessed Virgin.
Protestantism rejected the traditional
honor and glory which had always
been Mary’s. The world has paid heavily
and tragically for that rejection. In
losing Mary, the world soon lost Christ,
and finally God Himself.
At Fatima, Our Lady told the three
children, “I am the Lady of the Rosary.
When my Immaculate Heart triumphs,
the world will have peace.” This being
done, Mary would pour upon humanity
the whole of God’s graces which are
stored in her loving Mother’s heart.
Mary’s universal distribution of grace
flows not only from her divine and
universal motherhood as such, but also
from her positive cooperation and
participation in the plan of redemption.
The work of Redemption and mediation
was consummated on Calvary; it was
completed for all men and for all
time. The application of the fruits of
redemption continues and will continue
until the end of time.
T
he dignity of Mary touches the
infinite. The idea of being hidden in the
womb of the most holy Virgin, implies
not only her function of giving us birth,
but also of nourishing and sustaining
us through grace even after our supernatural
birth.
God the Holy Ghost, being barren in
God, that is to say not producing
another Divine Person, became fruitful
by Mary, whom He espoused. It was
in her, with her and of her that He
produced His Masterpiece, which is
God made Man, and He goes on daily
producing, to the end of the world,
the predestinate: The members of the
Body of that adorable Head.
