getting to know the locals
Betty with son Camron - and a photo-bombing friend
What is your favorite thing about living on
St Simons Island? The beauty that surrounds
us and the feeling of community.
Where are your favorite photo locations and
at what time of the day? Early morning
Gould’s inlet and King and Prince beach. During
the day, little ponds on the island have so much

wildlife and beauty to explore. I’ll make it to
Jekyll every now and then and try to get out
and explore different areas for new and fun
things to photograph. At night, depending on
the time of the year, the sunset is in different
places creating different opportunities.
When you are not out with your camera
where are you? I am painting rocks for SSIrocks
Kindness Project or taking my son out to enjoy
the fun things kids can do on the island.
When and how did you choose to live on St.
Simons Island? After attending school in the
area, I moved away for 20 years. When I
returned home in 2015 I was amazed at the
incredible beauty that I had not fully
appreciated as a child. I realized I had a talent
and passion for capturing that raw beauty
through photography.
You can find more of Betty’s photos on St.
Simons Island at Pelican market and in
Downtown Brunswick at the Sawgrass Artists
market. She is a member of the Coastal Georgia
Photography Guild.
