PUBLIC ART
KIDS PLAY AREA
St. Pete has never had a downtown
playground and this one will
be unlike any other. Adjacent to
the Family Park, this will be an
exciting, interactive, play area,
themed appropriately, to the sea.
Nearby splash pads will offer
water fun for kids of all ages.
DISCOVERY CENTER
The Discovery Center, operated
by Tampa Bay Watch, will offer
dynamic interactive exhibits that
will educate the public and showcase
the Tampa Bay estuary, as
well as classroom space for school
programs.
FISHING
The Fishing Platform at the Pier
Head uses the existing caissons
from the Inverted Pyramid Pier
to allow visitors to get close to the
water and provide a dedicated
SHADE
Respites from the harsh Florida
rays will be provided by shade
trees, umbrellas and other structures
throughout the District.
To supplement the alreadyplanned
shade amenities, a grant
from the American Academy of
Dermatology will provide a large
shade structure in Spa Beach
park.
RELAXATION
How about some down time? The
new Pier will offer just that with
an enlarged Spa Beach, a Family
Park, lawns to stretch out and picnic
and plenty of seating along the
water to sit and enjoy the scenery.
MAIN PIER HEAD DINING
Last summer, St. Petersburg
City Council approved a plan
by St. Pete businessman Chuck
Prather, owner of the Birchwood
Inn, Birch & Vine restaurant and
Canopy rooftop lounge, to create
three dining concepts at the
main Pier Head. There is something
for everyone to enjoy: Teak,
will feature a Florida-themed
menu; Teaki is a rooftop bar with
a tropical atmosphere and trendy
cocktails; and the Driftwood Café
is a street-level casual dining spot
with healthy menu options.
ADDITIONAL DINING
The public will have access to
additional dining on the south
side of the Pier Approach. The
restaurants include the Pavilion
Café, a “grab-and-go” take-out
concession, and Doc Ford’s Rum
Bar and Grille, a Florida-themed
restaurant that also has locations
in Ft. Myers Beach, Sanibel
and Captiva. Doc Ford’s takes
its name from the novels of New
York Times best-selling author
Randy Wayne White.
