“There are a lot of northern
and Canadian people who dig
themselves out of the snow to
come to the show,” Bob said.
The 2019 Sunnyland Antique
and Classic Boat Fest is
sponsored by an international
organization called the Antique
and Classic Boat Society.
“Wooden boat owners are
kind of like antique car people,
we like to collect and show our
boats,” Bob said. “You get to see
the interior of Florida on these
trips, Bob said. “It’s so beautiful -
all of the nature and wildlife.”
The first part of the trip is about four days, and then the group stops for the show, and then heads
north up the river back to Palatka.
“So it’s basically a two-week trip,” Ann said. Many people choose to go for half the trip. Either the north
or south jaunt.”
After the festival, Capt. Gerald Dake will lead the group back to Astor, De Leon Springs and back to
where the boats were launched.
The 2019 Sunnyland St. Johns River Cruises are scheduled for March 17 through March 29.
The trip is available to anyone who wishes to go, as long as there is space available on some of the
boats. If you’d like to go, contact Guy Marvin via email at gmarviniii@gmail.com or call (904) 334-3885.
