“Ten acres of property northeast of the
curve on 775 at Marker 7 Marina are
being upgraded for housing some of the
displaced persons. The property reportedly
belongs, through a trust, to George
Weymouth and is being leased from him
by the Gasparilla Inn.
“A block house on the property is
currently being renovated for Cornelius
“Tiger” Minor, who has handled the golf
bags at The Inn more than 40 years,
sources said.
“The Inn reportedly planned to bus the
employees to the island from their new
quarters.”
In 1988 the sale between landowner
Homer Addison and the state was
complete, and Tarpon Pass Estates officially
became a memory. By that time the
majority of the remaining residents of the
land who had moved off island dispersed,
many to Arcadia, and the black community
of Gasparilla Island as a whole was gone.
