Manatee Beans & Brew
If you’re headed toward Englewood, there’s a delightful place called Manatee Beans and Brew, located
at 4680 Placida Road.
Owner Amy Nichols is originally from Alaska, and she’s had a love for coffee for as long as she can
remember.
“My mom lives here, and I was ready to get away from the cold,” she said.
“As a young adult I worked in several coffee shops, and I always loved it.”
Three years ago her mother, Mary Terry, found out that the coffee
shop on Placida Road was for sale, and the mother and daughter
decided to go into business together.
“We bought it as partners, expanded it and decorated it with
creations by local artists,” Amy said.
The specialty coffee and baked goods shop has a large, comfortable
couch, tables and chairs as well as a variety of local magazines and books
to browse through. All of the artwork on display is for sale, and the
proceeds go to the artists.
Amy is also a cake decorator and plans to add more items to the menu this
season. She presently offers quiche and a variety of sweet treats as well as made-toorder

seasonal pumpkin, pecan and other pies.
“We are working toward becoming a full bakery, but it will be a while before we get to that
point,” she said.
The establishment is open from 7 a.m. to noon on Monday; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday,
and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
