EDITOR’S
LETTER
Can it really
be the end
of 2018?
Iguess time really does fly when you live in paradise. As we stare into the eyes of 2019 it seems strange
to think back on such a quirky year; a year that seemed to drag on forever, yet be gone in a blink of an
eye.
It was a real thrill this summer to be present at the Florida Media Association Charley Awards when
our name was called over and over again. This is a labor of love, to be sure, to be part of an amazing team
that created such a beautiful work of art. We were very appreciative to be honored so generously.
In this last GM edition of 2018 we have covered some interesting ground.Well-heeled hounds, works
of art made from nature’s gifts, exploring wonders on the beach and reveling in another one of nature’s
gifts – coffee – are all included in this one. We have some great resources here around Gasparilla Island
and the Cape Haze Peninsula, not to mention some great people.
It’s been a difficult year as far as red tide. Annoyance in June turned into concern in the later months of
summer and such sadness in the fall. There are some lessons we have learned in this time, as far as our
stewardship of the marine environment.
For right now, though, we are excited to see our friends return from the places all over the world, to
congregate here on our island and enjoy the beautiful winter months. There is much fun to be had, as
always, and we look forward to seeing everyone!
Oh, and Krampus is coming. Have you been good?
