Summer Wine Trends
I hope you take the time to give a few of these
wines a try this season!
WHITE WINES
It seems like white wine has a new
mantra this Summer. Just remember the
“3 V’s”! The V’s stand for Vermentino,
Verdelho and Viognier. All three of these
white wines are crisp and fresh.
Vermentino – Vermentino is a white grape
primarily known to originate in Sardinia but
is widely known as an Italian wine. The wine
itself is has a taste of green almond but aromas
of pear, peach and citrus fruits. This wine
pairs well with heavier cheeses, almost all seafood
and even Italian pesto dishes.
Verdelho – Verdelho is Madeira’s (Portugal)
most widely planted white wine grape. Having
the distinction of being both aromatic and
full-bodied, the wine it produces is loaded

light hints of citrus. Now this wine is great to
pair with such foods as Asian cuisine, light
Viognier
But the smell of this wine will trick you; it is not
Food pairing with this wine would include any
grilled chicken or pork dish, Summer salads, light
cheeses and almost any seafood fare.
RED WINES
The trend in red wines this Summer
seem to aim for the brighter and lighter varietals
such as the ones listed below. Just
remember “light and bright”!
