JULIE
SALVETTI:
BORN TO BE IN THE WATER
Julie Salvetti cannot recall learning how to swim, but she knows
she has never taken a lesson. Her mother
dipped her in the water when she was an
infant, and her passion for swimming
just flourished from there.
Being in the water feels more
natural to me than being on
land,” Julie said. “Think of a
nesting sea turtle and how easily and
fluidly she moves through the water,
and then has to drag her body across
land. Or a gorgeous jellyfish that
undulates and moves with a smooth,
athletic, wave-like motion, yet is just
a land-blob when it hits the beach.
That's how I feel.”
Known locally as “The Pearl Girl of
Boca Grande,” for her specialty in
working with fine cultured pearls and
turning them into unique pieces of
jewelry, the artist is not only a
swimming enthusiast but also an
instructor.
