Derek Taylor has
garnered wide praise
for his appearances
in the United States
and Europe.
Career highlights
include Cavaradossi
in Tosca, Jacopo in I
Due Foscari, Enzo Grimaldi in La Gioconda, Macduff
in Macbeth, Hagenbach in La Wally, Il Duca in
Rigoletto, Gustavo in Un Ballo in Maschera, Foresto
in Attila, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and
Ruggero in La Rondine. Taylor has also been lauded
for his portrayal of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly
and frequently appeared as Rodolfo in La Bohème.
A natural fit for French grand opera, Taylor has sung
the title roles in Faust and Les Contes d’Hoffmann,
as well as Des Grieux in Massenet ́s Manon. He has
recently garnered much success as Don José in
Carmen.
During the 2017/18 season, he will return to Virginia
Opera as Samson in Samson et Dalila and Oper
Leipzig to sing Calaf in Turandot. He will also make
his house and role debut as Erik in Der fligende
Holländer at Opera San Jose. Concert appearances
will include Verdi’s Messa da Requiem under the
baton of Michael Francis.
Highlights of the 2016/17 season included Pinkerton
in Madama Butterfly for his house debut with Oper
Leipzig, Macduff in Macbeth with New Orleans
Opera, a return to Theater und Konzert, St. Gallen
for Cavaradossi in Tosca and Walter in Catalani’s
Loreley, and a role debut as Calaf in Turandot with
Virginia Opera.
Finnish-American
baritone Tim Mix is
recognized for the
beauty of his voice
and his compelling
stage presence. This
season, he returns to
San Francisco Opera
as Monsieur de
Brétigny in Manon,
Jack Hubbard in the
Santa Fe Opera’s
Doctor Atomic, and
Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at Virginia Opera. In
the 2016/17 season, he debuted at Finnish National
Opera as Escamillo in Carmen, Tsar Dodon in
Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel at Santa Fe
Opera, and returned to Opera Colorado as Enrico.
An operatic-household name in the Baltimore/
Washington area, where he resides with his wife
and son, Mix has performed at Washington National
Opera as Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera and Ford in
Falstaff. At Lyric Opera Baltimore, he has performed
Sharpless in Madame Butterfly and Marcello in La
Bohème, a role he reprised at Annapolis Opera. At
Baltimore Concert Opera, he has performed Count
di Luna in Il Trovatore, and Escamillo in Carmen.
At OperaDelaware, he has performed Claudius in
Faccio’s Amleto, and as a regular with the Russian
Chamber Art Society he has performed numerous
concerts of Russian song repertoire. Other career
highlights include performances with Arizona
Opera, The Dallas Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre,
Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Palm Beach Opera,
Portland Opera, and the San Francisco Opera as
well as numerous appearances including the L.A.
Philharmonic and Oregon Symphony.
Mix has received the Founder’s Award from the
Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the Christopher
Keene award from New York City Opera as well as
accolades from several competitions, most notably
the Mirjam Helen International Singing competition,
Palm Beach Opera competition, Richard Tucker
Foundation, and the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Auditions.
