2018 Artist Demonstration Day
Monday, Jan. 8 10 a.m. to 1p.m.
Come to the Boca Grande Art Center and see this season’s
instructors providing a demonstration of the art that will be taught
in upcoming workshops. Chat with the art instructors or just walk
through to see the examples of work. Oil, pastel, watercolor and

Another strong character dares to go her own way in this
beautiful Horton Foote drama. Alice Gorman stars as a woman who
dislikes living with her son and daughter-in-law and runs away to her
childhood home. Maggie Bush, Kerrill Taylor, Mark Masselink and Fred
Allardyce star in this collaboration between Royal Palm Player and

Boca Grande Live! Presents: Tesla Quartet

The Tesla Quartet is praised for their “superb capacity to find the
inner heart of everything they play, regardless of era, style or
technical demand,” (The International Review of Music). The quartet
will be performing their Provocateurs program, featuring works from
Joseph Haydn and Sergei Prokofiev.
The Tesla Quartet was formed at The Juilliard School in 2008, and
quickly established itself as one of the most promising young
ensembles in New York, winning second prize at the J.C. Arriaga
Chamber Music Competition only a few months after its inception.
The Tesla Quartet is Ross Snyder (violin), Michelle Lie (violin), Edwin
Kaplan (viola), and Serafim Smigelskiy (cello).

Youth Fishing Tournament
Saturday, Jan. 20, 9-11 a.m.
Boca Grande Fishing Pier – North end of the island
Grab your fishing pole and tackle box and come join the family
fun at our youth fishing tournaments. This free tournament sponsored
by Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Boca Beacon is for
boys and girls ages 15 and under. Bait will be provided (no lures
allowed). All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian for
this event. This is a catch-and-release tournament. Great prizes to be
had!
Registration is not necessary, just be at the pier ready to fish by 9
a.m. Refreshments are not provided so please bring what you need

Island School PTO Chowder Dinner

Come join in the fun at this year’s fundraising event
for the Island School PTO, The 4th Annual Chowder
Dinner & Silent Auction. Enjoy a variety of chowders
prepared by many of your favorite local restaurants,
served up by the parents, staff and alumnus of The Island
School. Salad and desserts will also be served. During the
event there will be a silent auction of various items up for
bid, as well as a 50/50 auction. $15 for adults, $5 for kids,
cash at the door.

10th Annual Boca Grande Club Tennis Ball

Suncoast Humane Society will host the 10th Annual
Tennis Ball event where you can enjoy dinner, drinks, and
live and silent auctions for a great cause – the Suncoast
Humane Society. Tickets are $125 and can be purchased
at the Boca Grande Club, Suncoast Humane Society, SHS
Thrift Stores and online at humane.org. The tennis professional
exhibition at the Boca Grande Club commences on
Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Free Concert On The Green!
Dixieland Jazz with the Bud Leeds Ensemble

Your Sunday afternoon just got even better. The sounds
of New Orleans jazz will be filling the air at the Boca
Grande Community Center with the Bud Leeds Ensemble.
An “All That Jazz” crowd pleaser, the ensemble will
bring you the instrumental harmonies, rhythms, and
improvisation that Dixieland is known for.
This free concert
will take place on the
courtyard green of the
community center.
There is limited seating
and space will be available
to park your golf
cart, have a picnic, or
tailgate, so get there
early. Bring your own
beverages (alcohol
permitted).
