This January, the Clearwater
The Grand Opening of Clearwater’s MakerSpaces
Public Library System will host
the official grand opening of the
Studios@Main, which showcases
four floors of comprehensive makerspaces
that are dedicated to free, hands-on,
experiential learning at the downtown
Clearwater Main Library.
The first floor houses the Creation Studio
for Arts and Design, which features
various arts and craft supplies, tools
and equipment. It includes
many things from paper
and paints to a laser

engraver and digital
arts software and
hardware. Attend
one of the many
classes, and let your
creativity shine.
Ongoing classes
allow patrons to
make anything from a
bracelet to a painting or a
handbag.
The children’s zone on the second floor is
home to the Discovery Studio of Creative
Learning, where school-aged children can
play and experiment. This studio focuses
on science, technology, engineering, art
and math, and there are many gadgets,
games and crafts to tinker with and enjoy.
The third floor includes both the
Innovation Studio of Technology and
Business and the Multimedia Studio.
Here, patrons can develop and explore
new skills, which include designing and
printing 3-D objects, as well as filming
and producing original videos, music and
photographs. They can also learn about
circuitry, design and publishing websites
and computer graphics. Patrons can use

equipment, software and

expert instruction on a
variety of topics, either
in support of their
businesses or just for fun.
The newest makerspace, the
Heritage Studio of Community Memory,
resides on the fourth floor. In this studio,
patrons can use a variety of digitization
equipment to convert old photos, videos
and audio recordings into easily shareable
digital formats. Additionally, the Heritage
Studio of Community Memory is home
to extensive collections of local and
Florida history and genealogy resources,
including the archives of the Clearwater
Sun newspaper, to help patrons learn
about and preserve the past.
