BRIGHT LIGHTS ahead Confident is a word you would use to describe KidzAct Alumni Molly Spiroff who was four years old when she accepted her first role as a lion king in a KidzAct production. Her costume included a cape and crown created for her by KidzAct costume designer Mary Anne McKerrow. “The day of the show, the crown kept sliding down in front of her eyes and right before she went on stage I took it off her so she could see,” says McKerrow. It was easy to see Molly was destined for a future in theatre when after the show she asked if she had done something wrong to have the crown removed. Instead of giving up on theatre, the experience motivated Molly and she spent the next fourteen years acting with KidzAct and learning under their highly skilled and experienced staff and education team. Molly is happy to play both leading and ensemble roles and most recently played a nun and ensemble member in both the adult and teen versions of TNP’s 2017 summer musical Sister Act. “KidzAct has offered me opportunities I might not get at other theatres,” said Molly with her signature infectious smile. “I have had the opportunity to perform in shows along side adults who are very accomplished. You think to yourself I want to be as good as they are.” Molly spent the past year traveling and auditioning for colleges.“I was worried that I would not be as prepared as the other applicants who attended performing arts schools,” Said Molly. “but it turned out I was more prepared than many of those auditioning with me.” Today Molly is a freshman at Western Michigan University’s competitive theatre program. 64
