LETTER FROM MUSIC DIRECTOR ERIC JACOBSEN O Freunde! Oh Friends!’ - Ludwig van Beethoven These will be the opening words and sentiment of the 25th Anniversary Season of your Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra! I am honored and excited to be creating and performing the greatest orchestral music with a group of brilliant humans, who dedicate themselves to the arts! It is an incredibly important time to be creating beauty, love, empathy and respect in this world. This season, the Philharmonic comes together to celebrate the deep history of this orchestra with some of humanity’s greatest artistic achievements. We ended last season with Mahler's Second Symphony, one of the greatest masterpieces for orchestra and chorus. We open this season with a piece that might have been Mahler's greatest influence, the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven! With an all-star cast of singers, and the incredible chorus from the University of Central Florida we will kick off our 25th Anniversary Season with Beethoven's words that are as timely as ever. Oh friends, not these sounds! Let us instead strike up more pleasing and more joyful ones! This year we also open our Pops Series celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I can't help but think about the parallels between Beethoven and The Beatles… Yes, I get by with a little help from my friends. I can make a promise to you that the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra is shooting for the stars! Like this great city, we will grow and evolve and double down to create experiences that hold us together. We will end our 25th Anniversary Season with a concert by worldrenowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and my dear brother, and incredible violinist Colin Jacobsen. I am certain that the momentum that we will build from this season will propel us to the future, which holds incredible potential for continued passion and beauty as we anticipate the 2020 opening of Steinmetz Hall! Orlando, let’s continue to create! Sincerely, cerely, 4 ORLANDO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
