Chairman’s Reflections Dear Friends, Welcome to the opening of our 50th anniversary season! Thank you so much for being a part of The Florida Orchestra. Whether this is your first concert with us, or you have been with us from the beginning, we are delighted that you are here. As we look toward The Florida Orchestra’s next fifty years, we are filled with enormous pride in the collaboration between the orchestra and the Tampa Bay community. Each season, we strive to share our music with you and everyone who loves music across Tampa Bay and beyond. Sharing music, after all, is at the core of everything we do. Under the leadership of Maestro Michael Francis, we have an incredible season of concerts to look forward to at the Mahaffey Theater, Ruth Eckerd Hall, and the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, from Beethoven’s 7th Symphony to the music of Star Trek & Star Wars. We continue our commitment to the community through outreach programs including our Pops in the Park concerts, TFO on the Go, “Sing Out! Tampa Bay”, and our chamber music series at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. New in our 50th anniversary season, we have added two matinee series at the Mahaffey Theater, expanded our Coffee series at Ruth Eckerd Hall, and have just presented the first of the Harry Potter films with orchestra at the Straz Center. Last but certainly not least, we are thrilled to announce our 50th Anniversary Gala, An Intimate Evening with The Florida Orchestra and Sting, on December 9th. A limited number of Gala tables at a dinner with Sting remain available. Our 50th season serves as an historic milestone, not only to celebrate our rich history, but to look forward to the myriad of ways this institution will be able to serve over the next fifty years. All of this is possible only because of you, the passionate and devoted community that supports us and eagerly attends our concerts. In a world full of challenges, I believe that we have a responsibility to harness the power of music to make our community and the world a better place. Thank you, again, for attending this incredible concert performed by your Florida Orchestra. Sincerely, Thomas H. Farquhar Chairman, Board of Directors THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA | 2017-2018 6
