Annual Report Fall 63 Preserved Clearwater’s History Partnered with the Clearwater Historical Society and Pinellas County Historical Society to digitize and describe 10,000 images from the collection of renowned Clearwater photographer George L. Fulmer and the collection of Clearwater High School yearbooks. Teams partnered with the City Clerk’s office to digitize a small collection of oneof a-kind maps and ledgers, the Clearwater Public Library System’s historic city directories, and the city’s collection of depression-era Works Progress Administration newspaper indexes. Public Housing Support Through the use of HUD Community Development Block Grant funds, provided salary and administrative support for eight public service agencies that deliver a variety of support services to low- and moderate-income families, veterans, seniors, disabled persons and others in the amount of $85,813. The city also provided additional funding totaling $235,000 to seven agencies for homeless services and activities. Rebranding of Downtown Clearwater Created a new logo depicting Downtown Clearwater’s unique waterfront location and future as a major downtown destination. The city also contracted with a Tampa Bay creative firm to design and build a state-of-the-art website that promotes Downtown Clearwater’s business, community and investment opportunities. Station Square Park Activated Station Square Park as Downtown Clearwater’s town center. The city installed 12 umbrellas, 162 chairs and 54 tables. The city also organized weekly public events, including lunchtime and evening fitness classes, live music performances and community meet-ups. Studios @ Main Opened the Creation Studio for Arts & Design at the Main Library, which offers patrons the opportunity to learn and practice a wide variety of arts and crafts that include sewing, needle arts, painting, jewelry making, basket weaving and other DIY activities. Summer Food Program for Kids Partnered with the USDA and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to provide nearly 2,000 free, nutritious meals and snacks to children and teens 18 and younger through the Summer BreakSpot program. Swim Lessons Doubled the number of swim lessons provided at Clearwater recreation centers in 2017 to more than 29,000 lessons. Tourism Marketing Achieved print, online and television coverage that featured Clearwater which had a reach of 10 billion views. Articles about Clearwater were published by Coastal Living, TripAdvisor, TripSmarter, AAA, Huffington Post, Yahoo!, U.S. News & World Report and Successful Meetings. Socially, Twitter followers for MyClearwater have increased by 10 percent. World Softball Championship Hosted World Baseball/Softball Conference Junior Women’s Softball World Championship with teams representing 26 countries from around the world.
