Fall 15 Library: Youth (Groups of 10 or more must register in advance.) Library Fun Side of Math: Super Number 10 This program shows children how to use the number 10 in different ways to solve problems faster. Learning the magic of the number 10 is practiced through interactive games and food. Register online. This program is best for students in grades two to six. Younger students may attend alongside a participating sibling. • Thu., Sept. 28 • 5-6 p.m. Fun Side of Math: Those Dreaded Fractions This program teaches children to understand and enjoy fractions. During the program, participants will use different foods to gain an understanding of fractions. Register online. This program is best for students in grades two to six; younger students may attend alongside a participating sibling. • Thu., Oct. 26 • 5-6 p.m. Halloween/Day of the Dead Party Celebrate the Day of the Dead and Halloween by enjoying crafts, games and candy. Also, there will be a face painter that can paint the Day of the Dead's traditional sugar skull on your face. • Sat., Oct. 28 • 2-3:30 p.m. Winter Holidays Piñata Decorating Party Attendees will help decorate large piñatas for our December Posada Party and make a paper bag piñata to take home. We will also have a Thanksgiving Piñata loaded with goodies to break open. • Mon., Nov. 20 • 3-4:30 p.m. Posada Party Help us celebrate the coming of Christmas and the Mexican celebration of Las Posadas. This program offers a gentle and fun introduction to literacy through stories, songs and fingerplays. Stay for play and social time after the program. Possible activities include spheros, henna tattoos, shrinky dinks, perler beads, button making, painting and more. A quick 15-minute storytime will be held anytime between noon and 2:30 p.m. Sundays when there are at least four children. Each week, explore a new theme with fun songs to dance to and sing with lots of movement and stories. For ages 2 to 3. • Tue., Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26 • 10:30-11 a.m. Music with Mr. Brad This high-energy musical performance is for toddlers. • Wed., Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, Dec. 13 • 11:15-11:45 a.m. Doggone Reading Fun Paws for Friendship Inc. brings therapy-trained dogs for reading sessions. Reluctant readers, or children who might not enjoy reading aloud, are often eager to read in the presence of an adoring and non-judgmental pup. • Tue., Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, Dec. 19 • 4:30-6:15 p.m. Fun with Math & Science Early Literacy Parent/Child Workshop This free, interactive, early literacy workshop is for parents and caregivers of children up to age 5. You are encouraged but not required to bring your child. Learn fun, easy activities that can be done during day-to-day routines and different ways to explore nature, choose books that support early math and science concepts, and build vocabulary necessary for counting, comparing and building an understanding of the scientific world.
