The whisperings of the Holy Ghost are so delicate that they are easily suffocated by our love of fine foods, bodily comforts, recreations, forgotten prayers and spiritual exercises and material concerns. Few realize the unfailing constancy of the Holy Spirit, because of their distracted lives; yet, there is not one of our actions in which He does not wish to take part. If we are to hear His profound whisperings, there must be silence within: no agitation and no selfish preoccupation. We must not try to fix the time of His visitations, the place, or the occasion. These inspirations depend upon Him entirely. We must not use force of our own, but wait for His illumination in humble patience. The Holy Ghost is kept at bay by our long conversations, noisy and fashionable companions, loud laughter, and the constant noise of media babble. We are so busy, so rushed and so taken up with material needs, that we seldom make time for guidance from the Holy Spirit. Even if we do not consult Him for guidance, we can make a habit of listening to Him. This is essential for our spiritual life. Without it, our prayers will be nothing more than a pious habit and not a union with God. When we do not ask for and follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost, we suffer three consequences: The inability to distinguish what is true and what is false; The inability to discern good from evil; The inability to determine what is beneficial to our souls and what is injurious. Who can know what God desires of us, whither He is leading us and by what road He will take us there? This power belongs to the Holy Ghost Who fathoms the very depth of the Heart of God and knows all His designs and His Will for our sanctification. We must be docile, attentive and obedient to the Will of God which is revealed to us through the Third Person of the Most Blessed Trinity. We can be loyal to God through fidelity to prayer BEFORE everything, ABOVE everything and IN SPITE OF everything! Therefore, Let us wish what God wishes, for to do this is to be strong; let us wish only what He wishes, for to do this is to be free: to be both free and strong is to be capable of everything. The Holy Ghost will not possess us entirely without our selfimmolation, for only then, where we are not, GOD IS! Short Act of Consecration O Holy Spirit of God, take me as Thy disciple: Guide me, illuminate me, sanctify me! Bind my hands that they may do no evil; cover my eyes that they may see it no more; sanctify my heart that evil may not dwell within me. Be Thou my God; be Thou my Guide. Withersoever Thou leadest me, I will go; whatsoever Thou forbiddest me, I will renounce; and whatsoever Thou commandest me in Thy strength, I will do. Lead me, then, unto the fullness of Thy Truth. Amen.
