As we mark the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, we should measure our response to Our Lady’s call for conversion, prayer and penance. The message of Fatima is the message for our time and, as Children of Mary, we need to take that message to heart. By making our Act of Consecration, we place ourselves in the sure refuge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary trusting that She will bring us to God. No one can show us how to respond to Our Lady’s call better than the children who saw her. In little Jacinta, we see a great desire to intercede for the conversion of sinners. The July apparition, during which Our Lady showed the children a brief glimpse of Hell, left a profound and lasting impression on her. She was filled with a desire to save souls. This same desire should fill our hearts. To her prayer, Jacinta offered daily sacrifices for the conversion and salvation of sinners. We can and should do the same. Francisco was filled with a desire to comfort the Heart of Jesus so abused and abandoned in the Blessed Sacrament. He spent hours adoring the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus offering his love to make up for the indifference of others. These two children heard the same message and responded generously as they obeyed Our Lady’s call for prayer and penance. As Children of Mary, we are called to say yes to Our Blessed Mother’s requests. We should strive to imitate the love and generosity of these little saints. We know that, by faithfully praying our Daily Decade and living our consecration to Jesus through Mary, we are helping to hasten the day of the Final Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. We invite others to join us in this great youth apostolate. The Children of Mary is co-sponsored by the Universal Archconfraternity of St. Philomena and the Universal Living Rosary Association of St. Philomena. With members throughout the world, we are striving to form the great saints that St. Louis de Montfort saw would come in the latter days.
