PROFILE 56 www.provincetowngalleryguide.com The 2017/18 Provincetown Gallery Guide The Anchor Inn: Meet the Innkeepers, Chris & Michael 175 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA www.anchorinnbeachhouse.com 508-487-0432 Innkeepers Christopher Andrews and Michael Zeppieri have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned many businesses in their career, including a car wash and a laundromat. Michael has had a career in real estate for 25 years, originally taking over his father’s successful real estate office and owning his own firms in North Adams & Williamstown. Both Christopher and Michael are from Western MA; Christopher had no intentions of ever leaving Northern Berkshire County where most of his family and friends still reside. So how did the two of them wind up as Innkeepers at the Anchor Inn? “It’s actually quite funny that neither of us has ever had any experience in the actual hospitality business and our first weekend owning The Anchor Inn was Memorial Day 2010. We have both jokingly called it a “birth by fire,” said Michael. “It’s been both a learning curve, and one of the most enjoyable encounters we have ever had. Someday we could write a book,” said Christopher. For them, it’s the people whom they meet who stay with them that is the most enjoyable part of being an Innkeeper. “Going into our 8th season, our guests have become friends over the years. There are some really great people who vacation in Provincetown from all over the globe, and we get to interact with them and get to know them. We have accumulated stories and memories from the people who have stayed with us that will forever make us smile and occasionally even cringe,” said Michael. Christopher added, “We have made so many connections and have met so many people with stories about the property. It’s really intriguing to hear about the history of 175 Commercial Street. It’s really fun to look at the old photos of the inn and when we have people stop in and say things like we stayed here in the 70’s when there was a baby grand in the living room and we were up all night singing or we haven’t been here in 25 years; we’re here to celebrate our anniversary!” The Anchor Inn has been a guest house for many decades and was once a club for masons in earlier years when it was known at The Anchor & Ark Club. It has been renovated over the years and has had interesting owners including the current owners of The Red Inn. In the off-season, Christopher and Michael visit with family and friends who still live in western Massachusetts and New York and also enjoy good times with them on Cape Cod.
