A lot has transpired at the PAL Theatre since last year’s article concerning its progression towards completion. The exterior of the PAL has been painted and the interior has changed drastically. The west side of the building is being renovated to include a banquet hall with a mezzanine on the third floor. The newly constructed rooms of the PAL (catering kitchen, restrooms, etc.) have been established. Sheetrock has been installed on the third floor and the second floor of the banquet area is currently being constructed. The elevator has been put in place, which will give ADA access to all three floors of the banquet side. We anticipate the banquet hall to be used for wedding receptions, company parties, meetings, and various other events. The first floor of the west side of the building will serve as a concession area for the theatre along with housing a theatre “Green Room” and the downtown Vidalia Main Street office. The east side of the PAL will host events such as first run movies, dance recitals, theatrical plays, concerts, and other events. There are many different pieces that are working together to make this facility become a reality. It will serve as a place for families to come and feel a sense of community pride and history. We anticipate its completion in November of 2017. Over the course of the next few months there will be opportunities for individuals and businesses to become a part of the PAL’s history. Our Convention Visitors Bureau will establish a committee to seek donors throughout the community who wish to have naming rights to different parts of the PAL. In addition to naming rights, there will be other opportunities for contributions to be made. As the PAL completes its renovation, the Downtown Main Street Association will be moving back to its original home. Our Main Street program will be introducing new opportunities for downtown businesses this year. The new programs will entice people to support businesses by promoting what they are selling and where they are located. The programs will promote the idea of bringing more pedestrian traffic and giving people new reasons to visit downtown. I look forward to working with our downtown businesses and assisting them with their growth and development for many years to come. Mayor Dixon, the Vidalia City Council, and I are excited about seeing the progressiveness that downtown businesses are experiencing. We invite you to come downtown and be a part of its growth!
