Heaven for a Sculptor Brookgreen Gardens’ outreach to and support of American fi gurative sculptors is nothing short of incredible. From the beginning, Anna Hyatt Huntington’s guidelines were simple, “I want to get, if possible, what represents each sculptor at his best.” Th at straightforward mission continues to this day under the purview of Robin Salmon, Vice President of Art and Historical Collections/ Curator of Sculpture. Rod Zullo’s sculpture, Ode to the West Wind II, was recently installed at Brookgreen as a gift of the Friends of Brookgreen Gardens in honor of Bob and Toni Jewell. In his remarks at the sculpture’s dedication, Zullo said, “Robin has been instrumental in the progress and legitimacy of American Figurative Sculpture. Her forty-plus years of advocating for Anna Huntington and her work are without peer. In the American world of sculpture, a pat on the back by Robin Salmon is the highest compliment. Her knowledge, commitment, and Robin Salmon with Rod Zullo at the dedication of his sculpture Ode to the West Wind II “For me, traveling to Brookgreen Gardens is as a golfer traveling to Augusta National. There is no greater aspiration than to be included in its permanent collection.” Rod Zullo ~ 15 ~
